Wayne Parnell aims for consistency over pace

2017-01-11

South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell says he will focus on consistency by sacrificing pace in Test cricket.

Parnell is to be included in the playing XI for the 3rd Test against Sri Lanka which starts tomorrow in Johannesburg.

Wayne Parnell has promised to prioritise precision over pace as he gears for a Test recall this week, almost three years since he last played an international in whites.

Parnell said, “If I want to play Test cricket and do so successfully, it’s about being consistent rather than bowling quickly.”

Parnell added he is not sure if pace has dropped but said he is content with better groupings.

ESPNCricinfo reported that Parnell had also been focusing on his batting during his time away from international cricket.

South Africa have long stressed the need for more allrounders in their set up and while Vernon Philander, Keshav Maharaj and JP Duminy have all emerged as candidates in the Test arena.

A rather determined Parnell there is room for more all-rounders in the side and hopes to fill that gap. The 3rd and final match of the Test series will get underway tomorrow from 1.30pm.
