Coffee & Company – All about coffee

A gloomy and rainy weekend can only mean one thing; you would want to curl up in bed with your cat or dog and binge watch Friends or a series of your choice. For the less fortunate, like myself, weekends are never about staying at home. Rain or shine, strolling on the streets of Colombo rushing to get from one place to another has now become routine. But like any other day, a busy day will make you want to crash and relax somewhere, and just enjoy the company and surroundings of a chilled out environment.

Coffee & Company did exactly that; we felt at ease when we first entered the café, as we were greeted by very friendly and polite staff. As expected, the café was pretty crowded, with only one vacant table inside and a few on the porch. The temperature inside was way too cold anyway, so we decided to sit outside.

Pol Sambol & Cheese Melt (Rs.270)

Although not made by many, the combination of Pol Sambol and Cheese has always amazed me. Coffee and Company does a pretty neat version of the Pol Sambol and Cheese melt. It’s served on two slices of French bread which were diagonally cut. While the presentation was minimal, the flavors of cheddar and coconut sambol really hit the spot.

Hazelnut Hot Chocolate (Rs.550)

On taking a sip of the hot chocolate I was immediately hit by a sweet chocolatey fix. To be honest we couldn’t really taste the hazelnut but this didn’t matter. We really enjoyed this hot chocolate. It is a very rich and designed for grown-ups, perfect on a rainy day. We’ll definitely have another one the next time we visit Coffee & Company.

Mocha Biscuit Pudding (Rs.350)

The Mocha CBP at Coffee & Company is one of the best we’ve tried thus far. They’ve really balanced the flavors and maintained a good chocolate – biscuit ratio. They also have a few flavors including Mocha, Mint and the Basic CBP.

Chocolate Chip Cookie (Rs.150)
This is the perfect chocolate chip cookie – crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It had a chewy interior, crunchy edges, and well-blended flavor. We did feel like the price was far too high for a single cookie. A similar cookie at Subway could be bought for Rs.100.

Coffee & Company, although at an inconvenient location, is perfect for groups or even couples. They have plenty of seating options and great food. Evenings at Coffee & Co are pretty busy, so we’d recommend you to go slightly early.
