Speaking at a media briefing this morning Minister Ranawaka said a special waste management centre will be set up.

The Minister said waste accumulating in future through the financial city, technology city and others will not be handed over to municipal councils or pradeshiya sabhas.

The Minister also commented on alleged reports of the relocation of the garbage dump in Meethotamulla under the United People’s Freedom Alliance led government.

Minister Ranawaka added statements are being circulated that the waste in Colombo was due to be taken to Puttalam, adding Gotabaya Rajapaksa was on the verge of completing the process, but that the present government did not take the programme forward.
