8 arrested for misbehavior remanded till tomorrow


The seven university students and a Buddhist monk who were arrested by police on the charges of violating a Court order and behaving in an unruly manner during the protest staged in Colombo last evening against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine, have been remanded till tomorrow.

The order was issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara.

Office of the Police Media Spokesman said the suspects were arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police.

The police yesterday fired tear gas at the group of protesting university students who were marching to the Ministry of Higher Education and the University Grants Commission.

The protest was staged violating an order issued by the Court Colombo Chief Magistrate preventing protests from being held by the IUSF and the Student Activists Committee of the Medical Faculty
