Govt to take extreme measures against illegal constructions


Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka says extreme measures will be taken against all existing illegal constructions.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo today Minister Ranawaka said the required building compliance certificate was not obtained prior to the construction of the building that collapsed in Wellawatte last morning.

Minister Ranawaka said extensive investigations have been launched into the collapse of the building adjacent to a cinema in Wellawatte.

An individual who was rescued after being trapped under the rubble succumbed to injuries last night.

The Police, Army, Special Task Force and Fire Brigade units are carried out operations in the area.

11 persons who sustained injuries in the incident are being treated at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital; while a further 8 persons are receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
