Debt will be significantly reduced by 2025 – PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says a clearly possibility exists to greatly reduce the debt weight of the country by the year 2025.

Speaking at the launch of Phase 2 of the ‘Wiyathpura’ proposed housing scheme, Premier Wickremesinghe said the country has to pay off a debt amounting to 4,230 billion rupees within the ensuing 3 years.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said a method in which to pay off the debt has been formulated following which the possibility arises to reduce the debt gradually in the five years thereafter.

The Prime Minister noted a method will be brought about in the future that ensures profit incurred by any company does not only fill the pockets of a select few but all those employed.
