Farmers demand Govt. to pay due compensation

The All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation has requested the government to expedite the provision of compensation to be given to the farmers.

Speaking to media this afternoon in Dambulla the National Organizer of the Federation Namal Karunarathne said if the government does not follow a proper procedure, severe action will be taken by the federation in this regard.

Namal Karunaratne said the Opposition is also attempting to gain political mileage by focusing on the issue at hand.

Karunarathne said the federation urges the government to compensate farmers adding that the government must pay the promised 30,000/= to farmers as they will not give up the fight until farmers are compensated.

He said if the government cannot make these payments they should not have made false promises adding that some members of the Joint Opposition are attempting to turn the matter to their favour.

He further noted the farmers didn’t receive any compensation for their government in 2012 adding that the only compensation the farmers received is through the good governance government.
