President urges politicians to fulfill promises


President Maithripala Sirisena says politicians must fulfill the promises they made before their accent to power.

Addressing a gathering in Thalawa the Head of State said everyone must unite to bring forth an era of better politics within the country.

The President noted citizens must work towards conducting their affairs in an honest manner as an era existed where crime and corruption prevailed from the highest ranking individual to those below.

The Head of State added these issues are being addressed while changes are taking place despite obstacles.

President Sirisena also said when a politician ascends to power they do so in the hopes of eradicating crime and corruption but eventually fall prey to it themselves adding this is why the public levels blame and generalizes politicians.

The President said despite criticism levelled at the government, everyone must unite to bring forth a better era of politics within the country.
