Two Sri Lankan women who arrived from Dubai have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle 7.8kilograms of gold jewellery worth 40 million rupees.

The duo was arrested early this morning along with the stock of gold jewellery, reportedly concealed in their belts.

Investigations revealed that the two women, residents of Colombo, frequently travel and reside overseas. Airport Customs are conducting further investigations into the incident.
