The Trade Union Collective of the Ceylon Electricity Board is due to launch a strike at noon.
The collective is demanding solutions to issues sounding the Employees Provident Fund including salary anomalies.
Convenor Ranjan Jayalal speaking to NewsRadio said an indefinite strike will be launched if solutions are not provided to their demands within 48 hours.
He said failure to do so will result in an indefinite strike adding that the strike is launched at a time that the public has power.
Jayalal said the CEB and the government has to claim responsibility if there is a power failure during this strike.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy has requested the Trade Union Collective of the Ceylon Electricity Board to suspend its planned strike.
Secretary of the Ministry Sulakshana Jayawardene said a number of favourable solutions have been provided to the demands of the trade unions.
Jayawardene said the long standing issues sounding the Employees Provident Fund including salary anomalies have been addressed.
Sulakshana Jayawardene assured the public will not be inconvenienced as a result of the proposed strike.
