Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera says the new Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee will be appointed in the near future.

The Minister said the team for the tour of Pakistan will be determined by the new Selection Committee.

Speaking at the Cabinet media briefing this morning the Sports Minister said a special conference with the participation of cricket experts to provide solutions to the present status of cricket will be held in Battaramulla on Friday.

Minister Jayasekera said former cricketers, Selection Committee members, interim Selection Committee members, former members of Sri Lanka Cricket have all been invited to attend the programme on Friday.

The Minister said the ministry is trying to draw everyone’s attention to how the current cricket crisis will be solved. He said the matter will be deliberated.

He said discussions will be held throughout the day and policy decisions reached at the conference will be forwarded to the SLC for them to be implemented.

The Minister said he is firm in the stance that the SLC must implement what the Ministry decide.

The Sports Minister also said a decision will be made if the final game with Pakistan in the upcoming tour in the UAE will be moved to Pakistan.

Minister Jayasekera said the World XI is currently touring Pakistan adding security has been at the highest level possible.

The Minister added a decision will be reached following an assessment of the situation.

The national cricket team led by Dinesh Chandimal will leave for the United Arab Emirates next week to take on Pakistan on a full tour.

Sri Lanka Cricket issuing a communiqué said the national team will embark on a full tour from the 24th of September to the 29th of October.

The Test series will begin on the 28th of September in Abu Dhabi before the second Test in Dubai, which will be a day-night encounter.
