The Colombo High Court today issued notice to the Attorney General, calling for him to appear before Court on the 20th of September to present facts pertaining to the bail application filed on behalf of the Former Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Anusha Palpita and Former Presidential Secretary and former Chairman of the TRC Lalith Weeratunga.

The order was issued by Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulathunga.

The duo was found guilty of distributing Sil material with funds belonging to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission during the 2015 Presidential Election, thereby incurring the government financial losses worth 650 million rupees.

They were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment each and were fined 2 million rupees each.

Court also ordered the duo to pay 50 million rupees each in compensation to the TRC.

The Court verdict additionally required the duo to pay their allotted fines before the 20th of September.
