Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says the government has decided to pioneer a world class education system with the introduction of technical subjects for state schools.

Minister Kariyawasam said a memorandum of understanding was signed between Sri Lanka and Finland recently to improve the local education system.

The Education Minister said Finland has agreed to support the government’s intention to introduce new subjects for students in the country. He said Finland has an advanced school education system and therefore the government decided to obtain their expertise to improve the local system.

Issuing a special statement, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the incumbent government hopes to introduce a world class education with the support of international partners.

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the 13 year mandatory school education and the introduction of 26 subjects will help the advancement of technical studies in the country.
