The newly formed Sri Lanka Podujana Front today announced that it is prepared to face an election any time under any circumstances.
Speaking during a media briefing held in Colombo today, Former Minister Basil Rajapaksha said the party will contest the forthcoming election under a broad alliance.
He said the group he represent do not resort to excuses based on circumstances adding they are prepared to play the game on any pitch. The former Minister said even if the government made things difficult or unfair they are prepared to face any challenge. Accordingly he said the group is prepared to face the election under any method.
Former Minister Basil Rajapaksha also hinted at the possibility of former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksha entering active politics. The Former Minister said that Gotabhaya Rajapaksha could come forward to lead a national cause. He said the Sri Lanka Podujana Front has held discussion with several parties to field candidates at the forthcoming election.
Former MP Rajapaksha said they are considering three methods to field candidates at the forthcoming election. He said the first approach is as a broad alliance under a common symbol adding the second approach is to field a group under a separate party ticket with the consensuses of all our partners.
He noted the third way is to field candidates under the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Front symbol and accept few other candidates from other coalition partners. He said the party has also come to a consensus on certain political decisions adding the party will be led by Mahinda Rajapaksha.
The former Minister remarked regardless of differences all would compete according to the same set of policies.
