Leader of the Opposition R Sampanthan has called on the President and the Prime Minister to take immediate action pertaining to individuals arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
In a letter to the President and the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader Sampanthan has raised concerns with the manner in which the suspects arrested under the PTA, have been questioned. The Opposition Leader also called on the government to repeal the PTA, as promised to the international community.
He added over 12,000 former combatants were released after rehabilitation, and said the present group has only been held under remand custody as suspects. Accordingly the Opposition Leader called on the government release the suspects arrested under the PTA.
