Railway operations still hampered

2017-10-13

The Railway Control room says despite the strike launched on Wednesday night being called off railway operations have not returned to normalcy.

A spokesman speaking to NewsRadio said though engine drivers reported to work railway guards have not signed in.

As a result the Railway Control room said several trains were cancelled this morning as well.

Railway transportation was suspended from Wednesday night till last evening due to a protest launched by railway employees.

Railway trade unions last evening called off their trade union action, following discussions with the Secretary to the President.

The protest was launched yesterday against the recruitment of several railway assistants outside the accepted recruitment procedure.

As a result of the strike the government arrived at a decision to declare railway services an essential service.
