31 released on bail over Hambantota protest


Court has ordered to release 31 suspects on bail who were arrested on charges of violating court orders during a protest in Hambantota.

Accordingly, Hambantota Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne ordered to release the suspects on two surety bails worth 500,000 rupees each.

The group includes 31 suspects including Parliamentarian Prasanna Ranaweera, Provincial Councillors Upali Kodikara and Sampath Athukorala and Former Provincial Councillor Major Ajith Prasanna.

The suspects were arrested and remanded on charges of illegal assembly, damaging state property, injuring police officers and obstructing their duties, and disregarding a court injunction during the protest in Hambantota on the 6th of October.
