Priyantha Jayawardene refuses to hear SLMC petition

Supreme Court Judge Priyantha Jayawardene has voiced his opposition to hear the petition filed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council over reversing the Appeals Court decision on South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine.

The Supreme Court Judge voiced his opposition when the petition was taken up for hearing in front of a three judge bench comprised of Eva Wanasundara, Nalin Perera and Priyantha Jayawardena.

Representing the Attorney General, the Senior Additional Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajarathnam said the recommendations forwarded by the committee appointed to solve the SAITM issue has already been implemented.

A request was also made to postpone hearing the petition till next year as all recommendations will be implemented before the 31st of December.

However, the Attorneys representing SAITM insisted to hear the petition promptly without delay.

The Attorneys further said failing to do so would violate the human rights of the students of SAITM.

Accordingly, the hearing was postponed till the 21st of November.
