General amnesty for Army absentees extended

2017-11-14

The General Amnesty period for Army Absent without Leave has been extended by another week, until 22 November.

The Army said the extension was made in response to numerous requests made to the Army Headquarters. The General Amnesty period commenced on the 23rd of October and was scheduled to conclude tomorrow.

A total of 8,052 Army deserters including 10 officers, 8 Officer Cadets and 8,034 Other Rankers reached respective Regimental Centers expecting legal discharge during this period.

Provision of employment or harbouring any Army absentee or deserter amounts to breach of the exiting law in the country and is an offence punishable in Court as per section 133 of the Penal Code.
