Report on fuel crisis handed over to President

2017-11-14

The report by the Cabinet Sub Committee appointed to look into the fuel crisis has been submitted to President Maithripala Sirisena.

The report was compiled by a committee comprising of Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and Arjuna Ranatunga.

The committee deliberated the cause for the delay and issues surrounding storage of fuel.

The fuel shortage was reported as the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation placed an order for substandard fuel which was subsequently rejected.

Reports of the shortage sparked panic-buying across the island, with motorists forming long queues outside gas stations, waiting several hours for fuel.

Member of the committee Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said steps will be taken to educate the public of the content of the report.
