The Court of Appeal today ordered the Attorney General to inform Court of the progress of investigations pertaining to the unrest at the Welikada Prison that resulted in the death of 27 inmates on the 13th of December 2012.

The order was issued by Chairman of the Appeals Court LTB Dehideniya.

The officers representing the Criminal Investigations Department said investigations are being conducted stringently.

Accordingly the Court of Appeal ordered a report on the progress next Wednesday.

27 inmates died and several others were injured in clashes between inmates and guards during clashes in November 2012.

Several guards and STF officers also sustained injuries during the clash which resulted in damages to prison properties.
