No. of O/L subjects will be reduced to 6 -Akila

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says the number of subjects in the Ordinary Level Examination will be reduced to six.

Speaking at a function in Nugegoda today, the Education Minister said the number of subjects will be reduced in order to minimise the pressure on Ordinary Level students.

The Minister said the Ordinary Level subject content is too heavy as the subject area is vast due to additional areas that have been included.

Minister Kariyawasam said the Ministry assessed the current subjects according to a practical and developed method and have planned to restructure the content and the syllabus in order to make a significant change.

The Minister added that the government is aware of the risk and the responsibility of launching this initiative as it is related to the education and the future of all students.
