Transport Min. calls discussion with railway unions

2017-12-07

The Ministry of Transport has called for a round of discussions with representatives of the Locomotive Engine Drivers Union presently engaged in an indefinite strike.

The discussion will be held with the Secretary of the Transport Ministry at noon today.

Speaking to NewsRadio Secretary of the Railway Trade Union Indika Dodangoda said future action would be determined on the response of Ministry officials to the union’s demands.

The Union Secretary noted officials have failed to provide a satisfactory solution to their demands thus far.

However Dodangoda said if discussions this afternoon are a success, a decision will be reached pertaining to the future course of action.

He noted several other trade unions have also pledged their support to the unions cause.

The strike was launched in opposition to the employment of engine drivers assistants outside the stipulated recruitment process.
