Sri Lanka Chairman of Selectors Graeme Labrooy says he is excited by little heard of Shehan Madushanka.
The 22-year-old has played less than a handful of domestic matches but inspired Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha when he saw him bowl during the T-10 League in UAE last month.
He was drafted into the 16-member squad for the tri-nation series in Bangladesh that starts next week.
Labrooy said the coach believes that you can, not teach someone to bowl fast.
He said “The ability you have got to bowl fast is a gift. Looking at long term, we are looking at someone who has got genuine pace. The average speed he clocks is 136 kmph and he has the ability to go beyond 140 plus kmph. We are very excited”.
Sri Lanka also have recalled top-order batsman Kusal Mendis, who was axed for the tour of India.
Labrooy said Angelo Mathews will play the series only as a specialist batsman.
