Take action based on Bond report- Transparency Int.


Anti-corruption organisation, Transparency International Sri Lanka today called on the President and the government to take action based on the Bond Commission report.

In a statement Transparency International said it is encouraged by the commitment expressed by President Maithripala Sirisena to implement the recommendations contained in the report of the Commission of Inquiry on the Issuance of Treasury Bonds.

It said, TISL endorses the recommendation for the Bribery Commission, to initiate investigations on alleged bribery involving a director of Perpetual Treasuries and the then Finance Minister.

Transparency International added that it also welcomes the proposal for the members of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank to be appointed on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.

Furthermore, TISL said laws should be enacted to improve the efficiency of the Bribery Commission.
