Kusal Mendis disappointed to have missed India tour

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis says he was disappointed at being left out of the touring team to India.

At the age of 22, Mendis already has three Test hundreds, including one against India at the SSC in August last year. Poor returns against Pakistan in UAE in October saw him being dropped for the tour of India, but the youngster has forced his way back into Sri Lanka’s ODI and Test squads for the upcoming series in Bangladesh.

In an interview with Cricbuzz Mendis said “I would have loved the opportunity to play against world’s number one ranked team. I loved the challenge against the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja during the home series. Was disappointed to miss out, but then again, I have got only myself to blame. Had I scored some runs in the Pakistan series, I would have been selected for the Indian tour”.

The Sri Lankans have been training for two weeks under new coach Chandika Hathurusingha before leaving to Dhaka yesterday. Mendis said Hathurusingha had advised him to stick to his game and to not be afraid to play his shots.
