One arrested with firearms & 145 ammunition


A suspect has been arrested for being in possession of several weapons including various firearms and live ammunitions in Karandeniya.

Issuing a statement, the Police Media Unit said the raid was carried out by officers attached to the Organised Crimes Investigative Unit of the Police Special Task Force.

The stock of weapons includes live ammunition, a revolver, a firearm in the shape of a pen manufactured internationally and a Bore-12 firearm.

The suspect was also in possession of a firearm manufactured in the US, one T56 magazine and 145 various types of ammunition.

Meanwhile, a book on weapons with the logo of the LTTE and four mobile phones were recovered from the suspect. It has been revealed that the suspect is Donan Thumara Ranaweera alias Suchi.

He will be produced before the Elpitiya Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
