Court today issued a restraining order preventing the sale of property owned by Former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga in the Colombo and Gampaha districts.

The order was issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne this morning.

The Financial Crimes Investigation Division informed Court that information revealed the relevant property was bought by Weeratunga with earnings of the controversial MiG aircraft deal.

NewsRadio correspondent said the Magistrate who took into consideration the facts issued the restraining order.

The Magistrate also ordered the Commissioner General of Land to be informed of the order immediately.

The case will be heard once again on the 13th of March.

Udayanga Weerathunga is charged over the purchase of MiG aircraft from Ukraine between 2007 and 2008.
