Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne says the people’s mandate received by the good governance government on the 8th of January 2015 has been further strengthened through the Local Authority Election.
Accordingly, the Minister said a change of the Prime Minister or the resignation of the government is unnecessary.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna obtained 45% of the all-island cumulative based on the total valid votes.
Minister Senarathne stressed that Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa received a lower percentage of votes than the percentage he received at the Presidential Election in 2015.
Therefore, Minister Rajitha Senaratne’s stance is that the majority of the voter base has voted against the Podujana Peramuna based on the lower percentage.
The Health Minister also said a discussion pertaining to the results of the Local Authority Election was held with the President and the Prime Minister yesterday.
A statement issued by Minister Rajitha Senaratne said the President and the Prime Minister had agreed to correct the shortcomings of the government and move forward together.
The Minister said the people’s mandate given to the current government was to eradicate bribery and corruption adding that the leaders of the good governance government have united to promptly carry out the mandate.
