UNP says Prime Minister will not change

A special meeting was held between Party Leader of the United National Party, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP Cabinet Ministers at the Temple Trees last evening as well.

Accordingly it was decided that the government will continue to function without any change to the office of the Prime Minister.

However the UNP stated the SLFP is free to continue to work alongside the government.

Furthermore a special meeting was also held with UNP Backbenchers and the Prime Minister yesterday.

At the conclusion of the meeting, UNP Backbenchers addressing media stated the UNP decided during the meeting to form an independent government.

Meanwhile the Tamil National Alliance has called for the good governance government to carry on.

Speaking to the BBC Parliamentarian MA Sumanthiran said the TNA remains neutral regarding any change to the post of the Prime Minister.

The TNA further noted any party which has decided to form an independent government is yet to call for the support of the TNA.

However MP Sumanthiran said in the event that any such proposal is made, the TNA is unwilling to become a coalition partner of the government.
