A group of officials representing Facebook are due to arrive in the island to hold discussions pertaining to the social media restriction imposed by the government.
Speaking to the BBC Sinhala Service Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando said the government is anticipating an official response from Facebook claiming hate speech will be removed from Facebook.
Minister Fernando stressed the social media restriction will be lifted following the official statement by Facebook.
Meanwhile the Minister said Facebook has favourably responded to the request made by the government to remove hate speech from the social media network.
However Minister Fernando noted the process of removing hate speech is lagging behind.
Minister Harin Fernando noted the lack of Sinhala translators at the Facebook headquarters is the reason behind the delay in completing the process.
