Minister of Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando says the temporary social media ban imposed last week will be removed by Friday.
Speaking to the BBC World Service, Minister Harin Fernando said the decision was arrived at following a discussion held at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission today.
President Maithripala Sirisena, who is currently on a state visit to Japan, also joined the discussion via telephone.
The Minister of Digital Infrastructure said officials from Facebook, who agreed to remove all posts that incite racism in Sri Lanka, will be in Colombo on Thursday to meet government officials.
The government took measures to temporarily ban social media sites including Facebook in order to avoid communal violence following unrests reported in Kandy.
