The Australian Police have charged an organised group of seven persons including five Sri Lankans, of pickpocketing people who use public transport and shopping within the Melbourne’s central business district over the past two months.
The accused include three women and four men aged between 25 and 38 years old, with five from Sri Lanka and two from India.
Police had arrested three of the group last week in Albion and four more in Sunshine and Tarneit yesterday.
They have all been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on the 14th of April.
According to Australian media, officers from the Melbourne Tasking Unit made the arrests over the past week as part of “Operation Galeforce”.
