7 issued notice over Karadiyana chaos

JVP Provincial Councillor Lakshman Nipunaarachchi and six others have been issued notice for preventing garbage Lorries from entering the Karadiyana, Piliyandala garbage dumping unit that was being transported following a court order.

The Kesbewa Magistrate Gihan Ranawaka ordered the seven to appear before Court on the 24th of April.

Court issued an order recently directing 350 metric tonnes of garbage collected by the Colombo Municipal Council to be dumped at the Karadiyana garbage yard in Piliyandala.

However the garbage could not be dumped at the yard due to opposition from area residents.

Police intervened in the matter as area residents and employees of the Urban Council continued to block the Lorries.

Police protection has been beefed up in the area.
