Feast on a decadent range of desserts at “Bellissima”

If you’ve been to Aviraté Café recently, you’ve probably noticed the Bellissima fridge next to the cashier. I honestly didn’t though. I approached the cashier and inquired as to where I can indulge in Bellissima’s treats, and he directed me to “The Bellissima Fridge”. My first impression? Disappointing, only because they had run out of most of their desserts (on a Tuesday afternoon, mind you), and I was left to choose between Caramel Shortbread Squares and Buckeyes. I chose both, of course.
Caramel Shortbread Squares (Rs.790)
If you’re a fan of caramel, you’re going to love these Caramel Shortbread Squares. A buttery shortbread crust and a silky caramel and chocolate topping make them truly over-the-top. The squares are quite dense, with the shortbread supporting the structure of a beautifully layered treat. The caramel was silky and pleasant in the mouth while the thin layer of chocolate balanced out the sweetness. Unless you have a heavy sweet tooth, we’d recommend to share it.
The last thing you should feel when you secretly tuck into a chunk of chocolate is guilt. Chocolate makes you live longer, it’s good for stress and we all know that it makes us feel better. Similarly, who can resist peanut butter and chocolate? No one. It’s a magical combination that hits all the right flavor notes, even if you don’t have a sweet tooth. We’ve all been there; standing with a spoon and a half-empty jar of peanut butter and wondering how we downed 1,000 calories without blinking. Bellissima’s Buckeyes are worth every rupee. The jar comes with 8 peanut butter and chocolate balls of pure bliss. As an ardent fan of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, I am glad we have this option in Colombo. It’s doesn’t really hit home, but it’s close enough.
We also tried the Cinnamon Rolls at Aviraté Café and boy-oh-boy were they good! The usual Cinnamon Rolls in Colombo are glazed, but these were coated with chocolate sauce. Like any chocolate lover, we would’ve preferred a bit more chocolate sauce, but the cinnamon rolls were up to standard regardless.
