Election monitoring body the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence has commended the efforts of the Election Commission to amend the existing election laws.
Speaking to NewsRadio National Coordinator of the CMEV, Manjula Gajanayake said this was a timely need.
Gajanayake said the Commission has directed attention towards introducing an advanced voting system at the upcoming General Election and future elections.
He noted that the country’s voting system must meet international standards.
He claimed that many citizens, especially doctors, nurses and other state sector employees including election monitors are unable to vote at elections owing to various reasons.
Gajanayake added their right to vote is thereby violated. Therefore he noted that introducing an advanced voting system will be a positive step forward.
