Air and water quality indexes in Colombo have improved significantly with the imposition of curfew across the country owing to the coronavirus.

The Air Quality Index based on AirNow Department of State has increased to 56.

The National Building Research Organisation attributed the change in the quality levels to lack of vehicular movement in the city.

The NBRO said significant changes have been witnessed in comparison to air and water quality levels before curfew was imposed.

The Central Environmental Authority recently stated that water quality of the Kelani River also significantly improved due to lack of manufacturing and other industrial activities.
