A Sri Lanka Army personnel who was deployed on duty at the Bandaranaike International Airport has contracted the novel coronavirus.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the soldier was working closely with persons returning from overseas, including the group that arrived from Kuwait recently.
He is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital designated for coronavirus patients.
However, during preliminary documentation of cases, the Army soldier was identified as a returnee from Kuwait.
However, following verification he has been determined as an Army personnel deployed on duty at the Airport.
Meanwhile, the Army officer who tested positive for COVID-19 reportedly visited four shops in the Horana town on the 26th of May when he was on leave.
Health authorities have accordingly directed 26 workers from the four shops who were exposed to the Army officer to self-quarantine.
PCR tests will be conducted on the group next week.
