COVID-19 recoveries increase to 1,678

Another 17 persons who contracted COVID-19 have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals.
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said the number of COVID-19 patients who recovered accordingly increased to 1,678.
Six of them were discharged from the Iranawila Hospital while four persons each were discharged from the Welikanda Base Hospital and the Teldeniya Base Hospital.
Two COVID-19 patients were also released from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases while one individual was released from the Kattankudy Base Hospital during the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases confirmed in the country rose to 2,037, after four new COVID-19 cases were reported in the country, yesterday.
The Department of Government Information said a returnee each from Bangladesh, Kuwait, India and Pakistan tested positive for COVID-19.
Accordingly, 747 persons who returned from overseas recently have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, while 904 Navy personnel have also contracted the novel coronavirus in Sri Lanka.
348 COVID-19 patients are currently receiving medical treatment at 11 hospitals across the country.
40 persons who are suspected to have contracted the virus are also under medical observation.
Meanwhile, 11 deaths in Sri Lanka have also been linked to COVID-19.
