India reports 7,964 coronavirus cases & 265 deaths

India has reported the biggest single-day jump in the number of new coronavirus patients and deaths linked to COVID-19 with 7,964 cases and 265 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
According to Indian Health Ministry data 173,763 coronavirus cases have been reported in the country. India has also reported 4,971 deaths since the pandemic began.
More than 80,000 patients have recovered so far.
A record number of 11,264 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. This is the second consecutive day that India – the ninth worst hit country due to the pandemic – has reported over 7,000 cases in a single day.
The spike comes after restrictions were eased for the fourth phase of lockdown.
Four states – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Assam- recorded the highest single-day jump in the number of COVID-19 patients. In Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, 116 deaths linked to COVID-19 were recorded in a day, taking the tally to 2,098. The total number of cases surpassed the 62,000-mark.
In Tamil Nadu, 874 new cases were reported, taking the infection count past the 20,000-mark.
