Travelling between districts prohibited

Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana reiterates that travelling between districts will be prohibited in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Speaking at a media briefing at the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak DIG Ajith Rohana said as of yesterday Police Stations were informed by the Acting Inspector General of Police to set up checkpoints covering 600 Police areas in order to prevent persons from travelling from one district to another.

The DIG added the main objective is to prevent an individual travelling from a coronavirus high risk District travelling to another.

He noted that travelling between districts is prohibited even when curfew is lifted.

The DIG added that approved essential services, such as health officers, will be allowed through, under regulations of the Quarantine Ordinance. He noted that such individuals will have to adhere to certain regulations.

DIG Ajith Rohana claimed that when curfew imposed in the country is eased, individuals can only travel to and from the market or pharmacy.
