Former President Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa says it is likely that one his ‘brothers’ could be a contender at the next Presidential Election.
The former President, who is in Delhi at present to deliver a public lecture today on “India-Sri Lanka relations: the way ahead”, in an interview with The Hindu newspaper said Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa cannot be considered a Presidential Candidate since the minimum age has been raised to 35 years, instead of 30, preventing him from being considered in 2019.
Meanwhile the former President said he is ready to put past misunderstandings with India behind him, adding he could lead his party in the 2020 elections.
Former President Rajapaksa during the interview said he was “100%” confident his party be re-elected in 2020, while proposing a new mechanism for India and Sri Lanka to resolve all issues, especially with regard to economic concerns.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also denied charges that he was responsible for Sri Lanka’s debt trap by bringing Chinese companies into the Hambantota port project, saying the situation had only been messed up by the present government.
