IGP directs CID to probe SLC’s complaint

Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara has ordered investigations into a complaint lodged by Sri Lanka Cricket, over an alleged financial discrepancy to be handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department.
When contacted by NewsRadio Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunesekera confirmed the orders issued by the IGP.
Sri Lanka Cricket lodged a complaint with the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division on Monday, over an alleged financial discrepancy during a broadcasting deal reached to cover the upcoming England tour of Sri Lanka.
SLC in a statement said officials had uncovered a fraudulent attempt to transfer US$ 5.5 million of SLC’s Media Rights Sponsorship funds, which was due from an International Media Network; to an offshore account.
The statement added following the discovery of the attempted fraud, Sri Lanka Cricket’s CEO Ashley De Silva lodged a complaint with the Financial Crimes Investigation Division.
The decision was taken following directives issued by Minister of Sports Faiszer Musthapha.
Sri Lanka Cricket under the instructions of the CEO, have also decided to launch an audit inquiry into all financial transactions, conducted during the past one year period.
The England cricket team is slated to arrive in Sri Lanka on the 1st of October, for a bilateral series, and will consist of five One Day Internationals, three Test Matches and a lone T20 game.
