Reigning Champions Kandy Sports Club extended its unbeaten run at the Racecourse Stadium this evening, as the glamour boys of local rugby outmuscled the CH & FC side 31-13 in an one-sided Inter-Club Rugby League Tournament encounter.
Although Kandy entered the game as favourites, home team CH opened the scoring with a Sajith Saranga try in the 13th minute of the game.
The visitors were also reduced to 14 players, after prop Ganuka Dissanayaka was sin-binned for repeated infringement.
Despite being a man down, Champions Kandy raised the game in the latter part of the opening half, and scored three back-to-back tries to stun the CH supporters.
Jason Dissanayaka, Buddima Piyaratne and Tarinda Ratwatte were on the scoreboard as Kandy led 19-08 at lemons.
Ratwatte scored his second try of the game in the 46th minute of the game and helped Kandy secure the bonus point.
Although CH responded immediately with its second try of the game, Buwaneka Udangamuwa sealed the match for Kandy through a pushover try 68th minute.
The bonus point win helped Kandy extend its stay at the top of the league table while CH remains at the bottom of the standings.
Meanwhile, the game between Havelocks SC and CR & FC is currently underway at Havelock Park under floodlights.
The winner of the game will secure the second spot in the table heading into the final week’s proceedings of the 2019/2020 Inter-Club Rugby League season.
