Kandy ‘run riot’ in Nittawela to outclass Army

Reigning Champions Kandy Sports Club made their title credentials clear when they thrashed Army SC 64-19 in an Inter-Club Rugby League Tournament encounter at Nittawela this evening.
After two below par performances at the start of the season, the glamour boys of local rugby, finally turned up, scoring nine tries against an Army side who possessed some seasoned players.
Thilina Wijeysinghe and Buddima Piyaratne gave the early impetus as Kandy secured the bonus point before the end of the first half.
Nigel Ratwatte’s side led 36-00 at lemons. The home team went onto pile on more misery on the soldiers in the second half however with fresh legs coming onto the park, Army managed to breach the opposition defence.
Although, Army scored three tries in the second half, Kandy scored a further 28 points.
The jubilant Nittawela supporters cheered on even after the final whistle this evening, as the injury-laden Kandy side registered the highest score of the season.
Meanwhile, two matches will be worked-off tomorrow with CH & FC hosting Havelocks SC at Racecourse while Air Force SC taking on CR & FC in Rathmalana. Both games will get underway at 3.45pm.
