No ban to import palm oil variants for biscuits

The Presidential Secretariat has announced that there is no restriction in importing standard palm oil variants for biscuits, sweets and other bakery products.

Issuing a statement the President’s Media Division said accordingly permission has been granted to import palm stearin, the solid fraction of palm oil.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa recently ordered the importation of palm oil to be banned with immediate effect.

The PMD stated the decision was reached as consuming imported palm oil affects public health and doctors and food specialists have pointed out that it causes various illnesses.
