SAG2019: Sri Lanka secures two gold medals on day 3

Sri Lanka secured two gold medals during Day Three of competitions at the 2019 South Asia Games in Nepal.

Sri Lanka’s Nilani Ratnayake today won the women’s 1500 meters event to give the maiden gold for the strong Sri Lankan athletics contingent at the 2019 South Asian Games.

Ratnayake secured the Gold medal after clocking 4 minutes and 34.34 seconds while two Indian athletes won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Meanwhile, Dulakshi Pathiranage won the gold medal in the women’s Duathlon event.

She won gold after completing the event in 01 hour 05 minutes and 58 seconds.

A Nepalese athlete won the silver medal while Sri Lanka’s Iresha Udayakumari secured the bronze medal in the event.

In total Sri Lanka has won 37 medals at the games, including five gold, 13 silvers and 19 bronze medals. Sri Lanka secured medals in Karat, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Badminton, Athletics Triathlon and Wushu events.

Meanwhile, host nation Nepal is dominating the Medal tally at the 2019 South Asian Games with 19 golds.

They have also won five silvers and nine bronze medals. India has won 10 gold medals so far and is placed second in the medals tally.

Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives are placed fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively.

Bhutan with a solitary bronze medal is placed at the foot of the 2019 South Asia Games Medals Table.
