Bad light intervened on Day 4 in Pallekele and brought a premature end as Bangladesh found themselves in all sorts of bother.

They reached 177/5, still 260 away from their daunting target.

Out to chase 437, Bangladesh had no shortage of intent as Tamim Iqbal came out firing, yet fell for only 24.

Nazmul Shanto and Saif Hassan also went in with a positive approach but soon met the same fate as Tamim.

Debutant Praveen Jayawickrama scalped both and pegged back Bangladesh.

Ramesh Mendis then took over and removed Mominul Haque for 32 and Mushfiqur Rahim for 40.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka batted positively and gave their bowlers a massive lead to defend when they declared.

Karunaratne led the way again and scored an imperious 66.

Taijul Islam though did put his best foot forward for Bangladesh and scalped a fifer.

Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan will resume the last day’s play in hope of saving the match on a turning pitch.
