The Disaster Management Centre says spill gates of several reservoirs have been opened owing to rising water levels as a result of incessant rains.

Deputy Director and Media Spokesman Pradeep Kodipilli said water levels of the Attanagalu Oya have risen with a risk of spilling over in Dunamale.

He said eight spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir, five gates of the Udawalawe Reservoir, seven spill gates of the Ulhitiya Reservoir, seven spill gates of the Tabbowa Reservoir, two gates of Angamuwa Reservoir, eight spill gates of Deduru Oya Reservoir, two spill gates of the Ibankotuwa Reservoir and two gates of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir have been opened.

He claimed that the Wanneri Lake in the Kilinochchi District has also begun spilling over. Kodippili requested residents of low lying areas to remain vigilant of possible inundation.
