The Ministry of Education has reiterated directives to all heads of schools, to strictly follow and abide by Covid-19 health safety recommendations and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.
It has been reported that as of late parents, teachers and school children have been exercising increasingly less caution to maintain good health safety practices such as disinfection, washing of hands, wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing within school premises.
The subject Ministry had also highlighted the importance of school authorities remaining alert to any school children who may be ill and prioritising their health and safety.
A special discussion was held in this regard at the Education Ministry premises today.
Speaking at the meeting Director of the Medical Research Institute in Borella Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said the risk of a second wave of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka has not been entirely eliminated, stressing in the event that a second wave occurs, school children will face the worst of such a situation.
He therefore urged for the public to refrain from being careless ignoring health safety advice.
